My update posts appear to be getting shorter, so I will strive to write a little more today, since I finished my word count before noon. I wrote all two thousand words on the couch from 10:00-11:40, without letting myself get distracted except to learn the word lucubrate, which means to write, work, or study laboriously throughout the night.
WORD COUNT: 22,283
Last night I finished reading State of Wonder, which was so tremendously wonderful that I dreamed about it all night, hearing the narrator Marina Singh’s voice in my head. The novel is set in the Amazon; I have a family member in Brazil right now. If you are a worrier, you should not read this book until your family member comes home. However, you should read it immediately afterwards, because it’s surprising and moving, and for being hailed as a “literary” novel, a whole lot of things happen, including poisoned arrows.
Ann Patchett is always ten out of ten to me, and so is her new novel.
