1. I am reading, slowly, Possession by A. S. Byatt. It’s about academics in literature who discover letters connecting two Victorian poets. The best word I can think to use to describe it so far is Erudite.
2. I’ve been occupied with student conferences this week, which means I don’t have to plan a lesson but I do have to spend more time at my desk on campus. I’ve brought articles to read in lieu of students who show up late.
3. The articles are for my annotated bibliography of fifteen sources of secondary material about The Left Hand of Darkness. I’m surprising myself by enjoying the reading a little more than is good for me. If I ever do a Ph.D. in English, I’m writing about women authors of science fiction, because that might actually be fun.
4. This afternoon after conferences and between a hastily snatched lunch and my appointment at the career center, I am going to the library to hunt for Ursula K. Le Guin edited by Harold Bloom–or else to ILL it. Wish me luck.
