March 10

Thesis.  I turned in my thesis yesterday.  Hooray for me!  Now it will be read by the three professors I chose to be on my thesis committee.  We’ll meet together on March 22 for my defense, which I’ve often heard described as a conversation about why I wrote what I wrote.  At that time, they’ll decide whether I passed, and then I’ll turn in my approved thesis to the graduate school.

Graduation.  And then I will graduate in May, though my graduation ceremony will be dinner with family, since I’ve decided not to bother with the whole cap and gown thing again.  The ceremony will be exactly like last time, only longer, and I won’t get my diploma until sometime in August anyway, when my university finally bothers to mail it.  I think this is a wise  choice.

Reservation Blues.  Today I spent cleaning, baking ginger snaps, and reading Reservation Blues by Sherman Alexie.  It’s his first novel, and the best thing I’ve read by him, the only other books being The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven (linked short stories) and Flight (young adult).  Inspired by dreams and a magical guitar, Thomas Builds-the-Fire starts up a rock/pop band with an odd bunch of friends.  Though it’s funny at times, you are mistaken if you think this novel is a comedy.  Take a second look at the title if you’re still doubtful.

Spring Break.  And now, with nothing to do, I will proceed to go do nothing.  What a nice thought.
