January 11

Since the beginning of December, I’ve been making much more of an effort to read some of my unread books.  I like to have a variety of choices when I’m deciding what to read next, but more than fifty (fiction) books I haven’t read seemed excessive even to me.  Some of those I’ve owned so long that I can’t remember when or how I acquired them, such as the infamous The Fool’s Tale by Nicole Galland, which turned out to be a historical romance in disguise, and which I’ve since discreetly struck from the list and dropped into my sell pile.

Adding in the books I got for Christmas, some given and some gift-card purchased, I had fifty-three books to read, which is just under a third of my typical year’s reading.  I’ve made a bit of a dent in the list since then, though, and I’m pleased to announce that all five books I’ve read this month so far came from the list, and that it’s down by fourteen since December.

I don’t intend to read them all–I don’t think this is the year of Don Quixote yet–but I’ll certainly be reading on this list as long as I can before I break down and buy a new book.  Through January at the very least.

For those interested, the list follows.  (If you see any other historical romances, please warn me away.)
