1. The Far (Far) Pavilions. I’ve resumed reading the longest book I’ve ever tackled, The Far Pavilions by M. M. Kaye. I’m pleased to report that I’ve passed the 700 page mark, which means the remainder will simply be the length of a regular book. Of the six parts I’ve read so far, however, I’ve only enjoyed the first, third, and sixth, which is only half the book. The author’s tendency to dramatic longwindedness unfortunately created, for instance, an entire part five when a chapter or even a paragraph might do. Nevertheless, I press onward, hoping to finish the entire thing sometime this week.
2. The End. Ms. Kaye’s novel is not the only thing I will be finishing this week. All my classwork will be completed on Wednesday after my evening class, which means that Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will see the final class periods for my three courses this semester. And a good thing too, I say. I’m sick to death of Katherine Mansfield and will be happy to hand in my paper tomorrow at 3:00.
3. The Beginning. That means I can start filling my summer with writing projects. I’m extremely excited and already have two short novels on the schedule, along with at least one short story and a fairly large editing project, if all goes well. (Actually, I just typed “Chapter Three” on one of the above novels. Shh, don’t jinx it.) The main moral of the story is that I am going to be writing every day. I’m just afraid that this will make me so happy I’ll want to quit school. …Nah, I love punishment too much.
4. To Do. I have a to-do list today that is eight items long. The first one is “Finish paper.” Somehow, “Blog” is not on the list at all.
