I finished writing Chapter One of my comedic sci-fi novel this morning. As it’s been three days of the grueling 1,667-words-a-day challenge, I have five thousand words down. Since I’ve been participating in NaNoWriMo for several years now, I find that ten chapters of five thousand words each is a very comfortable space to work in. Already Tom Lord, my main character, has lost his cargo, picked up an unexpected guest, and narrowly escaped death by laser. I wish Serious books were as easy to write.
Otherwise, I haven’t been doing a lot of reading lately. Most of my books are still in boxes, so I don’t have a very clear picture of my reading options (since I packed the books I haven’t read in with the books that I have). I am still plugging along through With Lawrence in Arabia by Lowell Thomas, which I’m enjoying a great deal. But whenever I sit down to read it, it’s after nine in the evening, so I don’t get very far before the lines start going wavy. Perhaps I’ll blast through the last hundred pages this afternoon while I’m fully awake.
