Because it came recommended by two coworkers, I made the attempt to read José Saramago’s Blindness. However, if I wanted a very depressing commentary about the baseness of human nature, I would have read Lord of the Flies by William Golding; and if I wanted stream-of-consciousness style writing, I would have read To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf; and if I wanted to read a good book in translation, I would have tracked down something by William Weaver. Everything this book can offer has already been provided by someone else.
