A True Recluse

Yesterday I didn’t leave the house. I woke up when I felt like it…and then went back to sleep. I read an entire book (the very excellent Slight Trick of the Mind by Mitch Cullin), wrote almost four thousand words, cleaned the kitchen, did two loads of laundry, watched a movie (The Thomas Crown Affair), failed to crochet a square of single chain stitches, refused to change out of my pajamas and bathrobe, and hardly spoke at all the whole day: on the phone in consultation about whether a combination of sweetened condensed milk and skim milk could be substituted for buttermilk in the banana bread recipe I was making. It could.
