That Person

I’ve become that person.

Just ask me how many books/narratives I have going right now. No, really, ask me.

SIX.

  1. Arrowsmith by Sinclair Lewis.
  2. untitled something-or-other by Michael Crichton.
  3. Morphology of the Fairy Tale by Vladimir Propp.
  4. House Harkonnen by Brian Herbert.
  5. A Very Short Introduction to Egyptian Mythology by someone.
  6. Andimedon by Yours Truly.

And, sadly, the book I would like most to be reading, which I brought with me to Texas, just in case I finished the others with miraculous speed, is A Slight Trick of the Mind by Mitch Cullen, which is about Sherlock Holmes.

As a reader who took it as a matter of pride that she would only read one thing at a time, I am distressed to see how college has ruined me. In college, of course, you must develop the ability to dip in and out of many works of literature simply because you must read for so many different classes at once. But I did not realize my personal reading habits had deteriorated so sorely: I have become that person who reads a ton of books at once. And the one that I meant to be reading, and most decidedly am not reading, is Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes.  I think I need to write myself a syllabus to keep things straight. Alas and woe.
